The trio Reflections was begun in 2011 in Northampton, MA with Vernon David on cello, Johnny Clark on guitar and Dick Poccia on clarinet and bass clarinet.  Mark Applegate took over the guitar chair in 2012 when Johnny moved to North Carolina.  Currently, Joe Belmont holds the guitar chair. The unusual instrumentation for a jazz group led to an emphasis on quiet, interactive, and group improvisation.  Soprano sax was added in 2012.

The name Reflections, from the Thelonious Monk ballad, indicates our emphasis on group improvisation and the trading and elaboration of ideas from each of the instruments in solo mode.  Our eclectic repertoire includes originals and compositions of Carla Bley, Ornette Coleman,  Pacquito D'Rivera, Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Thelonious Monk, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Django Reinhart, Wayne Shorter, Stevie Wonder and others.
